The Dell Audio user experience is unacceptable.
If a program that plays audio is running before I plug in my headphones, I have to restart that program after choosing "which device did you plug in?" from the dialog box. Otherwise, sound will not play at all.
Example:
Let's say a YouTube video is playing in the browser. Plug in some headphones and choose the appropriate output, Headphones. The only way to get the sound to now come out the headphones is to close the browser tab, then reopen it and go back to the video. Seems like the audio channel is assigned when a program starts up, and it doesn't change until the next time you start it, like it has to reset before it knows how to route the audio to the hardware device I specified.
This happens for Spotify, Skype, Google Hangouts, etc. And to clarify, it seems to occur only when the program is running before you plug headphones in---doesn't matter if audio is currently playing or not.
It's a very frustrating experience, especially when trying to attend work meetings over video chat.
I do not have this experience with Ubuntu on an old Dell or with older version so of Windows on a Dell. The culprit seems to be the Dell Audio software completely failing at its job.
Does anyone else experience this?
