How do I setup Thunderbolt Dock (TB15) to easily switch between headphones and speakers?

Hi,

I recently set up my XPS15 with a TB15. Everything is working well so far, however, when I plug headphones into the front-facing audio jack I still hear the audio through my desktop speakers (plugged into the back of the TB15) and not my headphones.

Ideally, I would like to be able to keep the headphones plugged in and simply switch back and forth before outputs with some Windows 10 option. Is that possible? If not, how to I get just the headphones to get audio?

Thanks!

Inspiron 13 7000 model 7359 Wi-Fi problems on initial setup

To Whom it may concern;

I just purchased today (April 12, 2016) a new Inspiron 13 series 7000 laptop model 7359.  I followed the setup instructions, however, the windows setup failed.  After restart three times, I am able to get some of the system functions, however, the WI-FI adapter will initially connect to the internet and then after approx. 1 minute, it fails.  Please advise what I can do to fix this issue (possibly a driver problem?).  I have attempted to set the system to boot into Safe Mode but that function fails as well.

Thank You.

After connected my dell XPS 13 with Dell 34" ultra monitor via Kensington SD4000 universal docking station. Have video but no sound coming out from my ultra wide monitor. The only sound that I heard was from the XPS laptop. My Laptop's OS is window 10 and I tried to use Chrome and explorer Edge, none of the search engine is able to solve the problem. Moreover, I checked my all connective cables to/from the docking station and it seems fine to me. Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dell XPS 13 9350 - Microphone not working

Hi,

I have a new Dell XPS 13 9350 (only a few months old)... I noticed that the Microphone is not working in any applications I try.  I have gone through the Dell diagnostic as well as the Windows 10 diagnostics but nothing seems to fix the issue.

I am running the latest drivers (6.0.1.7737) from the Dell support web site.

I have tried to remove the Realtek drivers and go with the native Windows 10 HD Audio Drivers.   This did appear to fix the issue, but then I updated the BIOS to 1.3.3 and now it doesn't work again.  Not sure if the BIOS update broke it or it was just a coincidence and it would have failed after a reboot anyway.  I may attempt to role back the bios and see what happens.

I don't believe it is a hardware issue as I have seen the mic working fine with the Windows 10 drivers.

Has anyone else seen this problem or have a solution?

The problem is I don't know if the MIc was working from the beginning.  The day I got the laptop I update the drivers from the website right away.  I work in IT and always like to have the latest drivers.

Dell Insipiron 13 7348 low recording audio

Hello all, I just started using SKYPE today and noticed the Skype audio was extremely LOW.

I adjusted the Recording Levels to MAXIMUM, and still the audio is very LOW!

SInce I was new to the 7348 I wanted to see where the Mics were located. The owners manual shows 2 mics on the very top of the screen! BUT there are NO small Holes in the plastic frame in front of the mics to allow for clear audio????

The frame should have small holes in the top plsastic frame to allow for AUDIO. So you are talking through the plastic frame. This is crazy! I never have seen a Laptop  with a covered MICS.

WHAT TO DO?

Thanks rob

Inspiron 17 5000 series audio jack buzzing noise

I have an Inspiron 17 5000 series with Windows 8.1.  Recently, when I plug an external speaker line into the audio jack, as we've been doing since we bought it about a year ago, there's now a buzzing ticking sound. The music will play, but not without the ticking.  And sometimes when I plug into the audio jack, there's a high pitch squeal that lasts a second. But, the ticking noise doesn't stop.  I've updated drivers and it says they're updated with the latest and greatest. Any solution on fixing this??  Thanks!   -- Russ

Dell Audio - automatically switch to headphones when plugging them in.

XPS 9350 - Windows 10

Can I make Dell Audio (or something) automatically route the sounds to my headphones when I plug them in?  I didn't see any option within the Dell Audio menu to toggle that option.

I do quite a bit of work in my school's library, meaning I need to be quiet.

The problem is that when I plug in my headphones, I have to wait for Dell Audio to pop up and then I have to confirm my selection of "headphones with microphone" before any sound will go to them.  Only then will the sound go to my headphones.  While I do this, my computer starts dinging and beeping all the latest notifications for anyone nearby to hear, until I do the confirmation.

To make matters worse, if I plug in my headphones on the Windows lock screen and then sign in, the Dell Audio pop up never comes up; however, I still get the Windows notification center give me a notice, but it is non-interactive.  So then I have to unplug the headphones, wait for all the alerts saying that I unplugged something to go away, then plug them in the again.  If I don't wait for the alerts to clear, the Dell Audio selection windows won't load.  Again, the dings and beeps are going once I sign in and do all of this.

Of course, this is all provided I didn't mute the audio before I closed the lid the last time I used it.

E6230 audio problems, Windows 7-64bit

Hi, folks.

I purchased an E6230 secondhand, less HD. I installed a SanDisk 240GB SSD & upgraded the RAM to 16GB. I loaded W7 Pro 64bit on the machine, loaded drivers per instructions on the E6230 driver download page, & activated Windows via phone. The audio worked fine until I upgraded to W10. After much fooling around, I reloaded W7P64, drivers, etc. as before. Audio was working fine after opening Sound & checking Speakers as active. Device Manager showed two devices, high-def audio & the Intel IDT. Connected to the internet & Windows downloaded 212 updates, which I proceeded to install. The update installation failed at which point Windows reverted back. After rebooting, the speaker in the system tray has a red X & it only shows three HDMI sources, no speaker or headphones. Device Manager shows only high-def audio, no Intel IDT. I tried to reinstall the audio driver found on the download page but I get a message saying that "the hardware detected is not supported by this IDT software package. The install will be aborted". I've tried earlier versions as well.

I've tried Googling the problem & have seen that others have had a problem but they seem to have the IDT still available in Device Manager. I'd really like to get this resolved. I like the E6230 & it runs well except for the audio. Thanks in advance for suggestions.

E6230 with i5-3340m BIOS version A14, SanDisk 240GB SSD, G-Skill 2x8GB PC3L-12800, W7P64 (less updates), WIFI card, 90W power supply.

On-board speakers are scratchy but external speakers & headphones sound good?

With Dell Support Assist microphone test -- earphone playback is good, on-board speaker is terribly scratchy. The sound card lists as "ATI high Definition Audio Device" and "IDT High Definition Audio CODEC."

The laptop is Dell Studio 15 (1555) running windows 7 Professional, 236GB used, 214GB free space, Intel P8700 2.53 GHz Processor, 64 bit OS, 4GB memory

The built-in speakers used to sound good but now they are too scratchy to understand. However the headset and external speakers (both 3.5 mm jack interface) sound good and a HDMI connected projector sounds good.

I will appreciate advice.

Hello. I have a dell inspiron N5110 and today I had a problem where my audio stopped working out of nowhere and also my videos are loading but there is no playback. This happens in Google Chrome. In Firefox, the audio does not work either but the videos are playing just fine. How can I fix this? I already restarted my laptop once and the issue returned. Thank you.

P.s. My laptop is 4 yrs old. Should I do a system restore to fix all these problems that keep coming up? Thank you.

Latitude E5570 randomly loses audio

After reading many of the posts on this forum, there obviously seems to be an issue with many Dell models and randomly dropping audio,,, with and w/o headphones.  I'm adding one more to the list, Latitude E5570.  Ordered 30 of these for school testing, (which requires audio) and the sound randomly stops working.  I called Tech Support and they weren't aware of any issues along these lines.  After reading this forum,,, there are definitely issues!!!!  Why doesn't Dell acknowledge and correct these problems?????  Does anyone actually have a fix, (besides restarting, sleep, dumb down the driver, restore)  Does Dell know the root cause?  Thanks for letting me vent.

My dell inspiron 1420 model is approx 9 years old. I have formatted the disk and reinstalled vista 32 bit home basic OS with the CD provided during purchase. However, there is no sound in my laptop. the sound icon shows red cross symbol and the message pops up as -   "No audio output device is installed". have installed drivers and chipset as well using the dell resource CD provided by dell but no help.

in device manager, sound video and game controllers, sigma tel HD Audio codec shows error mark with yellow tick and reads the message

This device cannot start. (Code 10)

Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available.

however, check for solutions tab does not respond.

Also brightness of the screen has diminished. however, the external display on projectors is perfect.

Please advise me the solutions ASAP

Dell Inspiron 15-5547 i7- Audio gets louder

So this is a very difficult issue to explain, but I have had multiple replacements for this laptop and this has been happening on all of them.

If I am listening to audio (ANY audio- Be it YouTube, Groove Music, Windows Media Player, VLC, some video on Facebook, etc.), and I pause it or I just started playing it (In other words, when I press Play), the sound is very loud.  I then press the Volume Down key, which immediately puts it back to the lower volume it was at before (The volume percentage was not any higher when it got louder).

I have no idea what causes this.  Actually, I had this problem on my original also and it stopped.  I believe I fixed that one by uninstalling MAXX Audio, but I'm not sure how to do that.  Would that make sense as a solution, and how do I uninstall it?  Only Realtex High Definition Audio Driver appears in Programs and Features.

I am on Windows 10, but it happened on Windows 8 and 8.1 as well.  This model has given me so many issues, it's amazing Dell didn't do a recall.

Thanks!
